How to Succeed in Business, THP in Uganda
Munanukye Venance, 31, of Kibingo Parish, Kagongi Sub County, joined The Hunger Project (THP)-Uganda in 2004. He attended Vision, Commitment and Action Workshops (VCAWs) and other trainings, including microfinance trainings on project identification and enterprise development.
Venance began a few small income-generating projects as a way to implement the knowledge he had gained. Today his enterprise has grown; he owns 30 goats, two cows, one acre of sugarcane, one and a half acres of bananas, two acres of grazing land and a half acre of fruits. He has also established a school on one acre of his land.
His successful operation is set up efficiently: the goats and cows provide the banana plantation with organic manure; the banana peelings provide food for the animals and mulch for the garden; and the sugar cane cuttings provide fertilizer.
Venance is currently Chairperson of Mbarara Epicenter Committee and Speaker of Kagongi Sub County's Local Council. He stands out as an excellent role model for his community.
