Marisa Mushota Kalima has been the Country Director for The Hunger Project-Zambia since February 2018. She has over 10 years work experience with Non-Governmental Organizations, Research Institutions, UN agencies and Government Ministries. She has coordinated, designed, managed and implemented various programs aimed at alleviating poverty and hunger in over 100 districts, in all 10 provinces of Zambia.
Prior to joining THP, she worked as a Senior Technical Officer providing support for the Government of Zambia and UNICEF on social protection issues. She spearheaded the training and capacity building program of government officers, led the design and integration of various projects in the field of HIV/AIDS, Youth, Nutrition and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene into government social protection programs. She led the design and piloting of the grievance mechanism for the Zambia Social Cash Transfer program. Marisa has also provided technical support toward the design and implementation of the Girls Education, Women Empowerment and Livelihood project implemented by the government of Zambia with support from the World Bank.
Marisa holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration specializing in Healthcare from the Binary University of Malaysia, a Master’s degree in Development Policy and Practice specializing in gender studies from the Graduate Institute of Geneva in Switzerland, a Master’s degree in Public Policy Management from the University of York in England and a Bachelor’s Degree in development Studies from the University of Zambia.
She is keen to see how International and local organizations and the government can collaborate with a sense of urgency, using a community-based approach in addressing social issues facing women, youths and especially elderly persons in the country.
Marisa resides in Lusaka Zambia, with her husband and two daughters.
