Chirapaq, The Hunger Project’s partner organization in Peru, is committed to the recognition of the value of ancestral knowledge in medicine, agriculture, and child birthing as part of the essential cosmovision of indigenous communities and valid health systems. As part of the effort to revalue and promote the recovery of traditional health systems, Chirapaq prepared the booklet, “The Wise Women in Indigenous Health Systems: Knowledge and Biodiversity in the Quechua and Shawi Communities of Peru.” Through this publication, women who practice traditional medicine today are able to present their unique knowledge in their own voices.
