On October 22, nearly 600 Hunger Project leaders, investors and friends from more than 20 countries around the world gathered for our annual Fall Event. This year’s event featured the awarding of the Africa Prize for Leadership for the Sustainable End of Hunger to Dr. Florence Chenoweth, Liberia’s Minister of Agriculture.
On Friday, October 7, 2011 past Hunger Project Africa Prize laureate Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, was awarded the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize along with Liberian peace activist Leymah Gbowee and Yemeni pro-democracy campaigner Tawakkul Karman.
On July 13, 2011 Liberian Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Florence Chenoweth was announced by Hunger Project President and CEO Mary Ellen McNish as winner of the prestigious 2011 Africa Prize for Leadership for the Sustainable End of Hunger.
While The Hunger Project remains committed to the empowerment of the women, men and children of Malawi, recent and unprecedented conflicts in Malawi have prompted the withdrawal the Africa Prize for Leadership for the Sustainable End of Hunger from President Bingu wa Mutharika of Malawi.
