Senegalese Woman Leads Rural Bank Training Efforts in the North

June 24, 2015

Mariame Harouna Ba, President of the Namarel Epicenter, is a founding member of the Namarel Rural Bank. She served as Chairperson of the Loan Committee from 2002 to 2007 and as part of the Namarel Rural Bank Board from 2008 to 2011. During the 10 years she spent at the bank, Mariame acquired knowledge and experience through the trainings she received and the audit missions of The Hunger Project-Senegal. This led the program to choose her as the lead trainer in the Northern zone.

As lead trainer in the Northern zone, Mariame Harouna Ba facilitated three partner workshops for rural bank members in the Ndioum, Dodel and Fanaye regions. This financial literacy training was aimed at raising awareness among women and equipping them with the skills to make effective and efficient use of the loans they receive.

32 villages in the Dodel rural community attended this training, each village sending 2 representatives. Participants confirmed that Mariame provided quality services and was very knowledgeable on the subject.

Going forward, Mariame will lead  efforts being made to join the banks of Namarel, Dahra and Ndioum/Dodel to the Coki rural bank. She will play an important role in building the capacities of actors, monitoring performance indicators, and sustaining good practices in the network of rural banks in the north.
