In Memoriam: Anne Petter

Anne Petter, a very beloved and enthusiastic Hunger Project investor from Seattle, passed away unexpectedly this month. She died peacefully at home of natural causes.

Anne came to The Hunger Project in 2003. At the invitation of one of our activists, she attended a small presentation in Seattle and, from that point on, began to build a legacy as a powerful investor in the end of hunger. Within six months of attending her first presentation, Anne was on her way to India with Hunger Project President, Joan Holmes, and a group of high level women investors. In subsequent years she was among the first to step up as an investor in the Girl Child Appeal, the Millennium Leadership Campaign and then to provide the up-front matching money for our two $1 Million+ Leadership Challenge matches.

At a recent Hunger Project event, Anne shared that a highlight of her life for each of the last four years, has been attending The Hunger Project’s Fall Event in New York. What made it so special for her was the fact that, every year, she filled her table with her children and grandchildren. Anne loved to travel with her family so that they could experience the world first-hand. It was a gift to her family that she could bring them to New York and introduce them to the leaders from South Asia, Africa and Latin America who are on the frontlines of ending hunger and poverty.

Anne will be greatly missed by all of us at The Hunger Project. Millions of women, children and men have been given the opportunity to build lives of self reliance and dignity as a result of Anne’s partnership and great generosity. We are all so thankful to have had Anne in our lives.
