THP-Uganda Inaugurates Health Center for Namayumba Epicenter2

Two years after the inauguration of the Namayumba Epicenter, the health center, which was not previously operational due to lack of medicine and medical equipment, is now up and running.

THP-Uganda, in partnership with Wakiso District, has fully launched the Namayumba Health Center through a massive medical mobilization that involved 77 medical staff and personnel from Wakiso District. On launch day, a wide range of services were offered, including: maternal and child health care; ear, nose and throat examinations; HIV testing and counseling; dental; immunization and

child health care; health education; vision; and general treatment.

More than 1,000 members showed up to receive medical attention—indicative of the community’s need for immediate health and medical services. However, now that the health center is functional, long wait times are expected to significantly decrease.

The Guest of Honor at the launch was the Chairperson of the District Local Council V, Hon. Matia Bwanika. The event was also attended by the District Chief Administrative Officer, various Councilors from the different sub-counties near Namayumba, health inspectors, religious leaders, and THP-Uganda staff and development partners.

Dr. Mukisa Emmanuel, District Health Officer, explained that the health center would have two operational days a week until issues of medicine availability were resolved with the Ministry of Health and National Medical Stores, after which it would be able to operate on a daily basis. Hon. Matia Bwanika expressed gratitude towards THP-Uganda and voiced his commitment to ensuring that the health center receives its medicine supply.

The group planted a grafted mango tree in the epicenter compound in honor of the facility.
