Raja Mari is president of her village council. "Participating in The Hunger Project's Women's Leadership Workshop gave me self-confidence, motivation and courage," she says. During her three years in office Raja has focused primarly on education and sanitation.

In late August 2010, Mbarara Epicenter became the sixth Rural Bank in Uganda — and the twenty-first in Africa — to gain official government recognition. Such recognition is the ultimate objective of The Hunger Project's Microfinance Program, which operates in eight countries in Africa.

Floods in Pakistan have left more than 1,300 people dead and 14 million affected as waters wash away people's homes, crops and livelihoods. The Hunger Project stands in solidarity with the people of Pakistan and the many agencies that are working to provide relief.
