"Human Chain" Demonstrates Against Hunger in Bangladesh

In honor of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, Youth Ending Hunger (YEH), a voluntary youth program of The Hunger Project (THP)-Bangladesh, formed a human chain in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka on October 18, 2009.

Youth volunteers formed the chain to bring attention to their demands for more investment in education and youth, and increased development of the environmental sector.

Renowned economist Prof. Anisur Rahman inaugurated the event and was chief guest. Also in attendance were students from Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University, Eden College, Badrunnisha College, Titumir College and World University.

The event gained wide media coverage, including an article in the largest English language daily in Bangladesh, The Daily Star.

In addition, YEH units arranged roundtable discussions in more than 50 locations across Bangladesh from October 16-18 to mark International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
