Standing in Solidarity with the People of Haiti
We at The Hunger Project (THP) stand in solidarity with all the people of Haiti in this desperately challenging time. We commend the many relief organizations, government agencies and individuals who are working to meet the needs of all those suffering from the devastating effects of the January 12 earthquake.
While THP does work to support disaster preparedness in the areas where we work, we are not a disaster response organization and we do not have programs in Haiti. To support such work, we encourage you to give directly to such organizations. The coalition InterAction, of which we are a member, has put together a list of organizations working in such a capacity. For a list of Canadian civil society organizations working in Haiti, visit the Canadian Council for International Cooperation.
While crisis support is unquestionably needed at this critical time, the situation in Haiti underscores to us the importance of THP's mission of ending hunger and poverty. THP's programs focus on self-reliance, empowering women and men to eradicate persistent hunger and abject poverty in their communities and strengthening local government to build local resilience and skills for them to better cope when such emergencies arise.
