Graduates of a session of our Women's Empowerment Project
Ghana was the first nation in Africa to gain independence, and the first to decentralize government - bringing resources and decision-making closer to the people. Today, Ghana is the first country where The Hunger Project has launched an initiative to demonstrate that its people-centered approach can be scaled-up to reach the entire nation.
The Hunger Project in Ghana is committed to the sustainable end of hunger throughout the nation. To achieve this, it implements an integrated, bottom-up, gender-focused strategy known as the epicenter strategy.

At 23 epicenters across 5 regions of Ghana, it mobilizes and empowers the people of more than 250 villages to meet their basic needs. At each epicenter, the people of 10-15 surrounding villages work together to create and run their own programs in health, education, nutrition, food production, food processing, adult literacy and microfinance.
