Graduates of a session of our Women's Empowerment Project

Ghana was the first nation in Africa to gain independence, and the first to decentralize government - bringing resources and decision making closer to the people. Today, Ghana is the first country where The Hunger Project has launched an initiative to demonstrate that its people-centered approach can be scaled up to reach the entire nation.

The Hunger Project in Ghana is committed to the sustainable end of hunger throughout the nation. To achieve this, it implements an integrated, bottom-up, gender-focused strategy known as the Epicenter Strategy.

At 37 epicenters across five regions of Ghana, the Epicenter Strategy mobilizes and empowers people to meet their basic needs. At each epicenter, the people of 10-15 surrounding villages work together to create and run their own programs in health, education, nutrition, food production, food processing, adult literacy and microfinance.
