October 2008
Every year, The Hunger Project-India awards the Sarojini Naidu Prize to journalists who have managed to record women's stories in a poignant, eloquent and informative way.
The thirty-eight articles selected this year focus on elected women who work tirelessly to bring education and health for all in their panchayats (village councils). These articles are a tribute to their never-ending struggle and strength, and a source of pride for the journalists who catch powerful and insightful glimpses into the lives and work of these elected women.
Thus Spoke the Press Volume 3 is testimony to the fact that the media and indeed, the country, is recognizing the work of these elected women more than ever before.
