"Torch Events" mobilize support for African Women Food Farmers
At the launching ceremony of the African Woman Food Farmer Initiative in
October 1999, Joan Holmes announced, "As wonderful as tonight is, it is
only the beginning. As we say in The Hunger Project, you ain't seen nothing yet.
Tonight’s award ceremony marks the beginning of a massive awareness and
mobilization campaign to be waged across the continent of Africa."
Teams of Hunger Project investors from around the world have traveled at their own expense to take part in these historic events.
